Fresh Thoughts: Meet Up. Stand Up. Speak Up.

This week, we launched our Spring Meetings registration.

Working with our leadership team and the reconstituted Legislative Committee, we made some changes to our typical agenda, and I think you’ll understand the decision-making that went into these updates. In order to leverage the industry’s presence in Washington, D.C., two full days have been dedicated to meetings and discussions regarding the blueberry industry.

We’ve invited U.S. Trade Representative Ambassador Greg Doud to speak with our industry about the Trump administration’s trade negotiation efforts. We’ve invited USDA Secretary Sonny Perdue to join us for a reception on Capitol Hill. And we’re asking you to help us invite your member of Congress to get involved with the blueberry industry.

This is a pivotal time for the blueberry industry to be raising its profile in Washington, D.C.  Members of Congress really can’t appreciate what the blueberry industry brings to the economy unless you tell them. They certainly aren’t aware that 2020 is “The Year of the Blueberry” either.

I encourage you to help us make this first blueberry rally on Capitol Hill a notable success.

Help us spread the good news about what the industry brings to the economy and their communities. Help us identify champions in Congress who care about the health of our growers. And help us encourage Congress to declare July “National Blueberry Month.”

We have this and more in store for making 2020 the best year ever for the NABC, but we can’t make this happen without your support, engagement and participation: Meet up. Stand Up. Speak up!

As we pivot to the holiday season, Christmas and ringing in the New Year, I want to thank all of you who have written, called and video-conferenced with me over the past five months. I’ve really enjoyed learning from all of you, discussing the challenges and identifying the opportunities ahead. There’s a lot of opportunity.

I look forward to working with all of you to seize those opportunities in 2020.

Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Cheers to you and yours!

My Best,
